How Buzzers Work in a Restaurant?

Most readers will have visited a restaurant and either used or seen buzzers in action. There are two categories of buzzers used for different purposes:
- Customer Buzzers
- Staff Buzzers
In fact all these different buzzers use exactly the same technology - wireless paging. And the paging systems comprise of two components - a transmitter, and a buzzer (or number of buzzers) of any kind already mentioned above to work.
Here's how they are used in a restaurant:
For Customers: The buzzer (also called a customer pager, or coaster pager) is given to the customer when they may be waiting for a table or other service. A note is taken of the customers name and buzzer number. When the table is ready, the transmitter is used by the staff to send a message to the buzzer. The buzzer will either flash, beep or vibrate (or any combination) to make the customer aware that they have to return for their table or other service.
For Waiters or Staff: Essentially the buzzer is similar to the customers buzzer, but often worn on a belt clip around the waist. The transmitter is operated from the kitchen. When food is ready to be served, the kitchen staff 'buzz' or call the staff member by entering the buzzer number in to the transmitter. This action sends a message to the waiter or staff member to return to the kitchen as soon as possible.

Often both customer and staff buzzers are used together to increase the efficiency of service for both waiting customers or guests and the table service when customers are in the restaurant.
